Growth and Development in College Basketball
In the United States, college basketball has gained quite a following nationwide ever since it began in the early 20th century. Now, with the immense popularity of the Nba and its superstars, many students are looking to get noticed in college basketball recruiting, to play in college basketball teams and even perhaps in the NBA.
The 1930s and 1940s saw the rise of basketball in both high schools and universities. This favorable reputation was a significant cause which contributed to the institution of the National Basketball Association in 1946. The NBA has been the world’s premier professional basketball league throughout its entire history. The dominance of American teams in international competition for the first 80 years of the history of basketball both enhanced and edified the American origins of the sport.
As television coverage of games became the norm, the game was promoted to even further fame in the United States throughout the 1960s. This in turn led to a set-up of a rival to the NBA, the American Basketball Association (ABA), in 1967. The two leagues would eventually merge in 1976.
In the late 1940s the Harlem Globetrotters were created in New York, partly to combat the latent racism that existed in U.S. professional sports at that time. The Globetrotters also helped to increase the popularity of basketball with cross-country tours, featuring outstanding players who combined athletic talent and talented showmanship.
In college basketball recruiting, it is necessary for a student needs to be noticed by to prospective coaches. Many students, however, underestimate this chance and tend to blow their chances at a scholarship from the very beginning.
